The most common tracking number format is 20 digits (e.g. 9999 9999 9999 9999 9999), or a combination of 13 alphabetic and numeric characters, usually starting with 2 alphabets, following by 9 digits, and ending by “US” (e.g. EA 999 999 999 US). Usps Tracking: How does it work?

Upon request, items are intercepted at the original destination Post Office and then redirected to a different domestic mailing address, back to the sender, or to a Post Office as Hold for Pickup (but not to a PO Box). USPS Package Intercept® is not a guaranteed service and certain conditions apply.

First, you will need to verify the item is eligible for an intercept using either the USPS Tracking® tool or the eligibility checker on USPS.com®. If the item has not been delivered or released for delivery, you can request USPS Package Intercept® service.

Second, whether you are the sender or recipient, you must have a USPS.com account with a credit or debit card stored in your profile to request Package Intercept. Register online and submit the Package Intercept request. (A credit or debit card is required for payment of the intercept and estimated postage fees.)

As long as the item has not been delivered or released for delivery (out on the carrier’s delivery route), UPS Package Intercept® will prevent delivery to the addressee. Based on your request, the item is redirected either:

Back to the sender;
To a new domestic address; or
To a Post Office™ as Hold for Pickup (but not to a PO Box)

All intercepted items, except those being returned to sender, are relabeled as new Priority Mail pieces. Once intercepted, they are redirected at the applicable Priority Mail postage rate. You pay all fees ONLY if an intercept was possible.

Note: You cannot edit or cancel your Package Intercept request.

Since 2011, domestic postage levels are as follows:

• Priority Mail Express. This service guarantees overnight delivery to any location inside the country. Besides, the tracking usps service is included.
• Priority Mail. Depending on the kind of a shipment, the delivery time ranges from 1 to 3 days. Track shipment UPS is included (you are not obliged to order tracking and pay any additional fee for it).
• First Class Mail. Shipment Delivery takes approximately 2-3 days. In this case, the price varies by the weight and size of a parcel (usually used for delivery of postcards, letters or packages).
• Standard Post is the cheapest one and makes the best choice for those who are not ready to pay much for the service, and agree to wait for a parcel up to 6 weeks.
